A vast majority of people hate cockroaches. But there are some who find these insects fascinating. Sit back and enjoy these interesting facts about an insect you’ve always found repulsive!

A cockroach individual belongs to this order: Blattaria. The Class it represents is Insecta. Cockroaches also belong to these: Phylum Arthropoda and Kingdom Animalia.

That’s because they trigger allergies and carry a number of diseases. These particularly love our kitchens. Pest cockroaches also enjoy places where waste deposits are located.   • the German one has the following Latin name: Blattella germanica. It’s spread globally and they’re the most common in the U.S. You can recognize it by its brown-dark brown oval body that’s 1/2″-5/8″ in length. It has 2 antennae, 6 legs and wings. This species feeds on books, toothpaste, foods that have flour in them, and sweets. Their lifespan is 100-200 days. The German Cockroach prefers the following: your bathroom and kitchen. Dampness and warmth is what they’re after. They carry germs and bacteria. This species is known to trigger these: asthma and allergic reactions. Keep them away by either calling a person who manages pests or keeping your kitchen dry and clean;
  • the American Cockroach is known as Periplaneta americana. Its body is reddish-brown and oval. There’s also a pattern in the shape of number “8” on the back of its head; this figure is yellowish. The species is 2 in (5.08 cm) in length. It also has wings and 6 legs. The head is equipped with antennae. This insect isn’t native to North America. Its food consists of many things. You’ll find this species in places such as these: basement and sewer. Basically, they have a thing for wet, dark, and warm locations. You’ll even see them in the following: hospitals and grocery stores. The American Cockroach has even been spotted in restaurants. This type of insect is also dangerous; it spreads the same health problems as the German species. Prevention is done the same way;
  • the Oriental Cockroach is very easy to spot. Its body is almost black and its shape is oval. Its length is 1 in (2,54 cm.) It doesn’t have wings, but it does have 2 antennae. This cockroach has 6 legs, too. Latin name: Blatta orientalis. Their preferred diet: organic material, such as garbage. You’ll discover this species roaming around in piles of leaves, firewood, sewers, basements, and other decayed and wet areas. It brings the same health issues as its brethren described above. In order to protect yourself against them: seal cracks in your home, and keep the house dry and tidy. This individual is extremely dirty. Moreover, it gives off a very strong odor;
  • the Brown-Banded Cockroach has antennae, wings and 3 pairs of legs on each side. Their bodies are oval and brown. The wings have bands of color that are light in appearance. The scientific word of this insect: Supella longipalpa. Lifespan: 5-7 months. Here’s what they eat: non-organic food, book bindings and other starchy meals. The habitat of the Brown-Banded Cockroach is made of high, dry and warm places. This insect doesn’t like light. This type of cockroach is also responsible for asthma triggering, germs, and all the other problems delivered by the above species. You should be protected from them if the kitchen is tidied and kept dry.

Several facts on cockroaches:

  • most of the cockroach species are active at night. They’re also very fast. The insects know when an air current changes; they will scurry away 8.2 milliseconds after it’s sensed that;
